New legislation: 10 days paid family and domestic violence leave commences on 1 Feb 2023



From 1 Feb 2023, full-time, part-time and casual employees are entitled to 10 days’ paid family and domestic violence leave.

This applies to businesses which have 15 or more employees as of this date.

Family and domestic leave category in Xero The following settings will apply to leave types under the family and domestic leave category.

  • The leave type won’t be shown in Xero Me and will appear as ordinary earnings rate on the employee’s payslip

  • The leave balance won’t be shown on the employee’s payslip or in Xero Me

  • Leave accrual calculation will be set to ‘no calculation required’ as the leave doesn’t accrue over time

  • The unused balance won’t be paid out on employment termination

Only use this category for when an employee needs to deal with the impact of domestic and family violence.
